TIME ZONE ZERO

Standing Stones of Stenness, Orkney Islands Scotland, 2026
Time Zone Zero sculpture represents the contemporary abstract territory of time, that has been sculpted by geo-political forces. The zone of zero is based on the establishment of the Prime Meridian, where all calculations for world time zones are taken from. Research suggests the Standing Stones of Stenness (the oldest stone circles in the British Isles, 3100–2900 BC) function as an ancient celestial clock or observatory, aligning with the movements of the Sun and Moon. The concept of the installation is to juxtapose these two different constructions of time measurement. The tension between the two questions the complex nature of time and reality. This quantum proposition is to create a perceptual schism in time and space by optically lining up the angles in the Stones and the Time Zone.
The site installation was linked this to my exhibition at the Royal Scottish Academy of Art and Architecture’s special Bicentennial Exhibition IN TIME curated by and Annie Cattrell.
