EMBASSY FOR WATER
Flux Passport introduction of a ‘World Water Citizen’
Established 2010 in The Hague, the Netherlands
A series of embassy art projects took place across international arts institutions and public spaces including the Netherlands, Middle East, Canada, China, Belgium, UK and Australia. Embassy for Water was selected as a flagship project for the 2015 winning bid for the European Capital of Culture 2018, Leeuwarden, Netherlands.
The World Water Passport gives authorisation for free and equal access to water globally. It permits the holder to reside lawfully outside the limits of water as a value system of commodity exchange. Embassy for Water draws together the agency of water flow and water geopolitics as part of an inescapably global water body that defies national boundaries. Embassy for Water is a conceptual art project proposing the first global embassy dedicated to a shared entity, water. It is a consul of recognition, a reflection on the importance of water to the development of societies, cultural imagination and political power. Embassy for Water appropriates and transforms the traditional function, concept and symbolism of an embassy. Embassy is a conversation across the fields of arts, philosophy, architecture, politics and the sciences, following the principles of fluidity and transformation that characterise water.
